SHRED SESSION: 20081011:
Well, I didn't end up playing on my birthday (yesterday), but I had a really nice day anyway. I worked, which wasn't bad. My best friend came and picked me up after and we walked home together and hung out and she gave me the sweetest birthday card ever! I have pictures on Facebook. Ridic. Then I had a family dinner at a Chinese restaurant that we really like. It was super, and we all had the perfect amount of food. I was gonna hang with my besty again all night, but I remembered that Marita said that she would try to call from India to wish me happy birthday, and I had recommended 10 PM as a good time that would work with the 11-hour time difference. She eventually did call, and we had a really nice talk. I'm glad we're on such good terms. It was still super, super rough though. I wasn't planning to play hack for a while (on account of the last few sessions being pretty lame, and my body feeling wrecked), but my aching heart needed pain killers: The Hacky.
I started out just not caring and just wanting to have fun. Not school anything, not try big stuff, just play and let it flow. That was really nice and gave me the calm and freedom to play well and enjoy myself. I started doing longer runs with nothing in particular, but I was playing okay with no pain. I started filming around my house just for home video sort of stuff, and so my brother came out and was filming my other brothers playing with throwing knives while I hacked. So when they were done, I brought the camera back out for some action. Oh, I also played around with a soccer ball for a while before. I played around with toe stalls, and headbutts, the crazy hard toe > knee > head > op knee [repeat], and some basic 2s, like legovers and ATWs. It was SUPER fun. My brother came and played with me a bit after I was done, and then almost immediately tried to do some flicky kick thing and fell like a tree face down into the ground. Ouch. It wasn't cool. But very dramatic.
Anyway.
I played hack quite well.
I owned vortex. How did that come about? I was kinda frustrated by trying to spice up my runs completely, trying to do ALL new stuff from scratch. Hence my runs had been super crap lately (Manna mentioned "walk spins" -- he meant wauxpins :p). And this continued. I would have some great run starts, but would drop on OSIS after, like, 15-ish contacts. Frustrating. Especially since osis is all I school. My bane! So I schooled some neat stuff for video. I'll try to recap some highlights:
-
vortex x2 [both sides] (maybe not new?)
-
spinning rev whirl > rev swirl > rev whirl > stepping rev whirl > rev whirlygig [both sides] (was trying BSOS)
A couple okay drills rolled off a ton, both sides:
-
vortex > ripwalk [repeat]-spinning rev whirl > ripwalk [repeat] (maybe not hit before, but I've done spinning rev > blurry rev [repeat])
-blurry drifter > ripwalk [repeat] (hit before)
Vortex just seemed so ridiculously on with no hip pain (like, less than regular drifter). I May have hit 3 one side. And it totally felt like I could have done Vasek's 11 from Worlds '02 :p I also was trying vortex > vortex > mobius both sides. Close. Vortex > mobius BSOS was super close. I stopped trying, even, 'cause it seemed like a joke that vortex was so easy. Also tried some stuff like vortex > spinning rev whirl > mobius both sides. And vortex > gyro DLO BSOS and stuff. Maybe next time.
ERIK HAS UNLOCKED THE POWER OF VORTEX!
